Reciprocal Linking
optimize your site with Reciprocal Linking!
Reciprocal Linking is not dead!
It seems to be a bad word in the SEO world, "reciprocal". The best kind of IBL you can get is a one-way link. Why? Simply because to a SE, that one-way link is a "vote" of authority. That page where the one-way link resides is in essence saying, "I feel very strongly that the content I'm pointing to is important! Whereas a reciprocal link is in essence saying, "I'm just as important as the content I'm pointing to!" This is because the SE's will note the link-exchange both sites linking together and see that the linking page is gaining an advantage in that link relationship.
- Age of site - older is better
- Quality of link and anchor text no longer carries as much advantage - old links and quantity favoured.
Optimize Your Web Pages
Reciprocal Linking, widely known in the web world as SEO, has gained a lot of attention in the last few years. Reciprocal Linking and techniques are applied to web pages so that they are ranked higher by the search engines (like Google, Yahoo, AOL etc.) for targeted key word searches. Please feel free to use these Reciprocal Linking to optimize your web pages for a better search engine ranking.
Provide navigational links to all your web pages
In order for any search engine to index all the pages of your site, it should be able to find them. An efficient navigation system is very important in this regard. Avoid using images, JavaScript or flash navigation links, because search engines look for HTML link tags for indexing!
Content is king
Search engines index the content of a website, and the more content you have, the better. Add relevant content to your website. I mean, if your website sells dogs and cats, you can add reviews on the dogs and cats have. This will also attract potential buyers to your website. Usually dog lovers do research first before they buy online.
Use keywords in text
In order to target keywords in searches, use the same keywords in the text. For example, an article on Web Standards-based layout will use the keywords design and standards and layout instead of using architecture and templates. However, using the keywords repeatedly does not help either.
Use synonymous phrases in title, meta tags and headers
Include related words and phrases in page titles, text, and header meta tags. This will expand the range of keywords that the web page might be listed under. For example, my page has a title of "Search Engine Optimization tips and Tricks - HTML, CSS, XHTML - FierceStreet Networks!", while this specific tip header is "SEO: Optimize Your Web Pages". This page has been targeted for anyone searching for either of these words. Search engines value the page title, meta tags and page headers (within HTML <H1> tags) more than any text in the page.
Use descriptive links using key words
When linking to web pages within your website, use descriptive words in that link to describe that page. Advanced search engines use these words as the keywords defining the content of the page.
Reciprocal Linking
SEO - The importance of your title
Reciprocal Linking... Google loves titles.
So, whenever you markup a page using H1, H2, etc., add the title element. Relevant keywords added to titles will generate a heavier weight to your page's content. I wanted to run a test to see how high I can Google a page, so I created a XHTML 1.0 Strict page on pets. My page's title is: Pets Dogs Birds Tropical Fish.
I created it on the 23rd, and today, doing a search for Pets Dogs Birds Tropical Fish Googles at number one: Google Search for "Pets - Dogs, Birds, and Tropical Fish".
So, for example:
XHTML Code in HEAD
<title>Pets - Dogs, Birds, and Tropical Fish</title>
XHTML Code in body onload="init()"
<div id="masthead" title="Pets - Dogs, Birds, and Tropical Fish">
<h1 title="Pets - Dogs, Birds, and Tropical Fish">Pets</h1>
Now, this is just an example. You wouldn't run your keywords exactly as I did, the same on every tag's title element. You would use relevant to the tag words, which, on my example, did match with my page's title somewhat.
Again, this is just one example of a SEO technique. And by the way, the page was thrown together in 5 minutes. So, design-wise/content, I know it is very shallow. Just think of what it can become (your page, with your subject) with valid, relevant content!
search engine optimization tips, a history
Search Engine Optimization tips began in the mid-1990s, as the first search engines were cataloging the early Web. Many site owners quickly learned to appreciate the value of a new listing in a search engine, as they observed sharp spikes in traffic to their sites.
Site owners soon began submitting their site URLs to the engines on a regular basis, and began modifying their site to accommodate the needs of search engine spiders, the software programs sent out to explore the Web. Special features such as meta tags became a common feature of sites that sought out high-ranking listings in search engine result pages (the so-called "SERPs").
Consultant firms arose to serve the needs of these site owners, and attempted to develop an understanding of the search engines' internal logic, or algorithms. The goal was to develop a set of practices for copywriting, site coding, and submissions that would ensure maximum exposure for a website.
As the industry developed, search engines quickly became wary of unscrupulous SEO firms that attempted to generate traffic for their customers at any cost (the most common problem being search results' decreasing relevance). The search engines responded with a continuous series of countermeasures, designed to filter out the "noise" generated by these artificial techniques. In turn, several SEO companies developed ever-more-subtle techniques to influence Ranking.
In the early 2000, search engines and SEO firms attempted to establish an unofficial 'truce'. There are several tiers of SEO firms, and the most reputable companies employ content-based optimizations which meet with the search engines' (reluctant) approval. These techniques include improvements to site navigation and copywriting, designed to make websites more intelligible to search engine algorithms.
