My Life As A Search Engine Optimizer Hack Victim!

It seems that my great web host has been experiencing many DOS (Denial Of Service) attacks. Basically, what a malicious person does is attempt to overload a server by sending tons of requests to known web ports. HTTP, SMPT, FTP, etc., are the ports they target.

And this means that a few of the sites I manage, host, design, market, and forgot about - are unavailable. But does that mean I get money back from my host because of down times? See, I have a 99.9% uptime agreement with them. But it seems that if you read the fine print, you’ll see that since the server itself, the physical box that runs my Linux OS at their datacenter is up - that qualifies them their 99.9% uptime.

Now, I agree totally that it’s not my hosting companies fault for the attack. Nor is it their fault that once they block a specific IP address that the attack is coming from, another IP is used for attacking these ports. But (and I like to add I’ve spoken with tech support, and even have a great buddy on their staff), I really am beginning to wonder if shopping for another hosting company is in order.

If you happen to like your web host, give me a comment about them - and maybe I’ll check them out. My requirements are as such that I need a reseller account. Let me know!
