Should Google Kill PageRank?

I’ve just read a great post by Dan Thies on his SEOFastStart.com blog titled, “Why Google Can’t Just Dump PageRank“. You see, it seems that especially after the latest Google PR update in October, SEO’rs are questioning the real world value of PR.

Although it seems that those who have cried the loudest are the ones who have either lost more than one PR value (like from PR8 to PR3) - and have evangelizing the stand, “down with PR!”. But in Dan’s post, he details what he believes to be the reasons why Google can’t and won’t get rid of their PageRanking system.

One thing he says about PR is:

When it comes to innovations in information retrieval, and there have been many over the years, none has achieved the legendary status of Page & Brin’s “PageRank” algorithm. Its elegance, its simplicity, its wicked subtlety… the sheer underlying truth of the thing. It’s beautiful.

He details much more (and get’s really geeky-technically speaking as well) about the world of PR, and as webmasters, I wanted to bring to attention his thoughts, which I totally agree with.
